Egyptian Student living in the United Arab Emirates.
“I believe that home, physically, is a place where you are in a state of unbelievable and incomparable comfort- this place is you and you are it. Its essence imprints on you and welcomes you with a familiar, loving embrace; it is a place where everything makes sense to you and to which you always return. I have lived in the United Arab Emirates for nearly all of my developmental years and was raised by patriotic Egyptian parents.
However, I do not share the same feelings and beliefs they do when thinking about either country. I am a hybridized individual resulting from the marriage of globalization and the rise of the digital age.
In a sense, I’ve created a metaphorical space, rather than a physical place to relate home to. Rather than dwelling on negative aspects, continuing to feel lost or confused, I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world; open to exploring the possibility of never finding one home, or finding home in several places.”
